Update from PDPC Thailand : Statistics on the number of Personal Data Protection complaints (Fiscal year 2023-2024).

The Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) announced the statistics of complaints in Fiscal year 2023-2024 via https://www.pdpc.or.th and Facebook: PDPC Thailand

Highlight of the statistics includes:

Personal Data Complaint Handling Service

• • Total of 204 cases in  Fiscal year October 2022 – September 2023  

  • Total of 616 cases in  Fiscal year October 2023 – September 2024  

The number has risen up to 3 times.

Personal Data Breach Report  Service

• Total of 175 cases in  Fiscal year October 2022 – June 2023 

•  Total of 355 cases in  Fiscal year October 2023 – June 2024

The number has risen up to 180 cases.

It is explicit that the number of complaints related to personal data has significantly increased over the past year. This reflects a positive growth of awareness among Thai people, as data subjects, of their rights under the PDPA framework.

On the other hand, the number of reported personal data breaches continues to rise. This highlights ongoing challenges in organizational readiness for data protection, as well as the widespread issue of personal data breaches across all sectors.

Therefore, organizations should prepare and comply with the requirements of the PDPA to minimize the risk of fines and sustainably reduce personal data breaches.
